LA COLONIA

Phoenix, Arizona

Designed for a family whose mother is downsizing to live on site, the project supports multigenerational living while preserving a sense of independence and privacy for both households.

Beginning with the alteration of an existing backyard shed into a more gracious guest house, the scope expanded to include a new pool area framed by raised planting beds, a covered patio attached to the primary residence, and a reworked landscape with defined zones for circulation, gathering, and play.

Responding to the scale, materials, and textures of the historic home, the contemporary additions were shaped in close collaboration with the clients to express a clear distinction between old and new. Planned as a multiphased project, the site is designed to evolve over time as the family settles into shared life in the rapidly growing urban core.
